Last Tuesday Tid-bits
As was mentioned earlier this week. almost 30 HDL players came out Tuesday to enjoy a “fun game” of baseball and the great weather we have all been wanting. Since the Latino team had a solid turnout, they formed one team and remaining players who attended worked everyone into the batting and pitching rotation.
Wes Hill got the start for HDL Gray CDS Team. Wes was excited about the Tuesday night game because he will miss this Sunday’s Exhibition games due to a planned trip. Wes was sharp and had a lot of players who had not faced him completely off-balance at the plate. Wes had 5 K’s in four innings of work. The HDL veterans got 2 runs off Wes in first inning on a base hit by Bo McMinn who scored Cory Morgan and John McPhail. Wes Hill’s control was setting up batters for his effective curveball.
Jake Hatchett looked good in the field and at the plate. Also looking good at the plate was Drew Russell and Tim Wallenstrom. Both players had good A.B.’s. Drew Russell also showed his versatility by catching a couple of innings and throwing out a runner trying to steal 3rd base.
For the Gray (Latino) team, Johnny Gonzalez looked sharp at the plate and in centerfield. Johnny gets to a flyball as good as anyone who has played in the HDL. Pancho (?) also had a solid base hit.
Pitchers for HDL veterans was impressive as, Kris Klinger, Jake Hatchett, Nick Harris and Andrew Waddell threw some good “stuff” that was tough on the Gray team batters. The group to pitchers I listed recorded 11 strikeouts in 7 innings.
After the game everyone sat around and enjoyed the “bar & grill”, as Robert Miller did the cooking honors.
All-in-all, it was a fun night. This is what we want to see everytime the HDL schedules a baseball game. Let’s keep it rolling; starting this Sunday!
