2015 HDL Banquet Recap

The 2015 Season officially came to a close at last Friday night’s annual Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet held at the Ballroom of the Butcher Shop on Germantown Parkway.

For Those who attended:

I appreciate everyone who attended last Friday night’s HDL Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet.  This year’s banquet  was different because we scheduled it on a Friday night.  Our rough attendance estimate was around 60 people.   What was a surprise was this year we had a strong showing of our Latino membership and rookies.  So please tell your fellow players who were unable to attend that we wished they had attended. Let them know what they missed.

While everyone was waiting for their food order to be cooked, Larry Rutledge showed about an 18 minute video slide show that had music overlay  Assorted slides were setup in chronological order with titles and tags that enhanced many of the slide photo’s.  We will continue this treat as a tradition to help everyone re-live the season.  For those of you who want to see it again or for those who did not attend, this video has been loaded on YouTube at:

Hall of Fame Inductees:

 Larry Robinson

Larry Robinson

One former and one current HDL Player were inducted into the HDL Hall of Fame.  First inductee, Larry Robinson, was Inducted for his pitching numbers, even though he is a multi-tool player who can field, throw and hit.  Larry was highly complementary to the Committee for this honor.

Next the HDL Hall of Fame recognized Mr. Louis D. “Blackie” Crook as a Special Contributor inductee.  For almost 50 years, Blackie has been a mainstay in the Fairgrounds and Tobey Park complexes working several support functions from concessions to Park Services Admin to Tobey Park Field Director functions.  During the history of the HDL, “Blackie” has been a great supporter of the HDL for our weekly game activities as well as our on-going support for maintenance and improvements to the playing facilities of Tobey Park.  Blackie also made a very nice speech when he accepted his induction.

Our other player inductee, John “Jocko” DiGiacomo, was a surprise introduction. Since the committee decided to make his induction a surprise, there was no advance notice given to indicate Jocko’s induction.  As you can imagine, Jocko became emotionally overwhelmed by the surprise.  John made a deeply sincere speech about how this honor affected him as well as his deep appreciation for the value of the HDL Baseball league.

All SPONSORS were presented a plaque expressing our appreciation. Next, all Managers were recognized for fulfilling this important role.
