PLAY-OFF FORMAT, SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS, GAME DETAILS
Welcome to HDL Season Finale!
This Sunday, September 25th at 9:00 AM, the opening round of Play-off games will begin. The officers and team managers have discussed concerns and special restrictions to be followed during remainder of Play-off series.
Five Team Bracket has never been used in HDL until this year so we had to develop one. The following bracket will be used and will only be modified if weather issues dictate.
Player eligibility: All players listed on a teams rosters as paid are eligible for Post-Season participation.
PLAYER PICK-UP/BORROW GUIDELINES:
Since we expanded to 5th team, we have had to “borrow” fill-in players. The borrow procedures during regular season were relaxed since games were not critical. With Play-off format, teams are restricted as to what players they can recruit or borrow so extra players do not provide the team that is “short” a perceived competitive advantage.
Guidelines Agreed upon:
If a team is short, the opposing team manager has option to “loan” their extra player to the “short team”. If opposing team extra players are not available to loan, the Team manager from team needing extra players must select players from any team that has a “BYE” or has been eliminated. Pick-up players may not be borrowed if their batting average is in the top 15 players in the current league stats. (Currently any player with batting average greater than .361 is not available to be picked-up, unless opposing team manager approves in situation where no other player is available.
Based on most recent published League Stats: Following players may not be borrowed:
Brett Delk, PW Burnett, Patrick Belote, Jake Hatchett,Otis Edwards,Will McPherson, Judson Belote, Greg Bacchus,Cory Morgan, Ramon Moreta, Casey Engan, Johnny Gonzalez, James Skinner,Kevin Latham, Mike Morris
Team managers are encouraged to determine their roster status prior to 6:00 PM, Saturday before Sunday AM Games. This will allow borrowed player guidelines to be determined prior to one hour before game time.
Play-Off Game Times:
Double Header games during weeks 1,2,3 will follow time/inning parameters to maximize the best opportunities for all teams to advance or survive.
Double Header Game times:
Minimum 7 Innings or 9 innings played in less than 2 hours and 30 minutes. Our goal is always to play 9 innings.
The only way to play 9 innings is to manage the game clock and keep the games moving. If game clock expires and game has not completed 7 innings, game time will be extended until 7 innings have been completed and a winner has been determined. If 7 innings or more have been played and the home team is ahead when the game clock shows less than 5 min. remaining on game clock, the game will be declared “completed.”
All games must have a winner. If game is tied at end of 7 innings and/or game time of 2 hrs. and 30 min. expired, game will continue until a winner has been determined.
The HDL will not use the regular season tie-breaker format during the play-offs.
During weeks 4,5,6, All single games will be 9 innings. no ties allowed, play off ties until winner determined.
Note: Starting time for single games will be 10:00 AM unless weather mandates an earlier start time.
If I have failed to cover an important issue, please bring to attention of your team manager so issue can be addressed.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL HDL TEAMS DURING THE PLAY-OFF MATCH-UPS. I KNOW EVERYONE WILL BE TRYING TO DO THEIR BEST TO WIN.
JUST REMEMBER, IF YOU ARE PLAYING BASEBALL, YOU ARE ALREADY A WINNER!
