Prudential Tigers 8 – V-Bros. A’s 6

On Friday, April 28th, the HDL was blessed with decent field conditions to allow a scheduled game to take place.  Players for both teams showed up enthused about have an opportunity to play a baseball game.  The evening was warm and muggy so lots of sweat was shed by both teams players, especially the pitchers and catchers. Since it was Friday night, a few players for each team did not arrive at Tobey until after their normal work hours.  The late arrivals were appreciated by their team managers.

The game started with good pitching by Nick Harris for the Home team (V-Brothers) and Ben Eldred (Prudential Tigers). For two innings, the pitchers stayed out of trouble.  In top of the 3rd, the Tigers, Steve Eordogh, got a pitch he liked and shot a line drive into left field. Judson Belote walked. Johnny Gonzales knocked in Judson Belote to give Tigers their second run. After Jodie popped up to 2nd base and Jake Hatchett struckout, Johnny Gonzales scored on John McPhail’s infield hit. 

In bottom of the 3rd, with score 3-0, the A’s responded with 4 runs on 5 hits. RBI’s by Carlos Pargas, Nick Harris and Ramon Moreta created problems for Ben Eldred.  After Carlos Varela walked to load the bases with 2 outs, Don Hinkle brought in LHP Bill Gill. On the second pitch to Rutledge, Bill Gill’s pitch to home plate turned into a 1-2 tag out of Moreta trying to steal home plate.

The V-Brothers A’s added a run in bottom of the 4th to extend their lead to 5-3 on Wes Hill’s RBI Sac-Fly to score Alex Vivas. 

The Prudential Tigers added 2 runs in top of 5th to tie the game at 5-5.  This was an ugly inning as Tigers scores 2 runs on 1 hit, 3 walks and 2 K’s.  Passed ball/wild pitches helped the Tigers tie the game.  In bottom of the 5th inning, Jodie Wolfe took over for Gill and shut down the A’s bats by giving up no hits until the bottom of the last inning when the A’s tried to rally but came up short. 

During the 6th, 7th & 8th innings the Tigers scratched for single runs in each inning to create their 8-5 lead going into the last inning.

A’s Hitters:  Nick Harris (3/4), 1 R., 1 RBI, Carlos Pargas (2/3), 1 Run; Luis Perez (2/4); One hit each: Ramon, Vivas, Oscar Zamudio

Pitching:  Tigers: J. Wolfe – 4 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 2 K’s, 1 BB;  Athletics: Nick Harris – 8 IP. 8 R, 9 H, 11 K’s, 11 BB’s, 5 ER
